23andMe Research Revolution 2009 BEGINS! FIRST Patient-Driven Genomic Research Campaign!

Doing the ‘spit kit’ thing for 23andMe’s new Research Revolution.

Thrilled to be a part of first PATIENT-DRIVEN disease research effort!

Here’s info about the campaign: https://www.23andme.com/researchrevolution/

I’ll be tweeting participation updates @jensmccabe, and blogging about Research Revolution at http://hmrx.posterous.com/.

Why am I joining? Because 23andMe is pledging to “do research on any disease that enrolls enough patients to ensure a productive study.”

If I can help prove the model for any of the 10 conditions below, then we can move along to a condition that’s had a profound impact on my family and work life – depression research.

At 1k-2k participants needed per study, this is no small task.

Patient advocates, caregivers, researchers, and Health 2.0 bloggers take note – Top 10 conditions starting out (July 7-September 30, 2009):

ALS
Celiac Disease
Epilepsy
Lymphoma & Leukemia
Migraines
Multiple Sclerosis
Psoriasis
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Severe Food Allergies
Testicular Cancer

Also, the Revolution needs research captains!
Email: anneandlinda@23andme.com for more info on the captain program.

Please also feel free to reach out and touch faith – I’ll point you to the correct contact. jennifermccabegorman@yahoo.com or nifferj@gmail.com.
