Mapping Your Quarter Genetic Relations – Grandparents, Aunt, Uncles, etc.

What do your genes did you get from grandma? What genes do you share with your 25% match relatives including your aunt & uncles, nieces & nephews, and half-siblings?

What should you expect to see on the chromosome map of these relatives after you take a genetic DNA test?

  1. with these Chromosomes shown on screen is it both in the pair? or is it just one? since we have 23 pairs for a total of 46. but the list looks like it shows only one of the pairs.

  2. Beauregard says:

I love your channel! 🙂 And according to 23andme, I share 26% with my paternal grandfather, but maybe it is more, because 23andme does not count in the Y-chromosome.

  3. Very helpful, thank you.

  4. Hi! I love your channel and watch it nearly every day. THANKS!

I have a question concerning cousins issued from identical twin brothers. My father is half of an identical twin pair. Would DNA from his twin brother make his children look as though they are my half-siblings? I have had this question in my mind for years, and now I have the opportunity to look into this.

I appreciate any insight into my question that you could offer.

  5. Where would double first cousins fall in this analysis? Which of these relationships would they most resemble? Off topic….I did finally get my results from 23andme, and my daughter has the mtDNA haplotype "R" and mine is "H16". We sent 23andme a query but have not heard back from them, and jameslick gave her a "closest guess" of H16. What is your opinion and how could an error have been made? Thanks!
